After being crowned the UK's Best Premium Lager, we decided to conduct our own blind tasting experiment by pitting 1985 against 3 of the biggest lager brands in the UK.
In 2016, after more than 30 years of brewing premium quality cask ale, we decided to try our hand at brewing a kegged lager… And we’re SUPER glad we did! Named after the year Wye Valley Brewery was founded, 1985 has twice been awarded UK's Best Premium Lager at the SIBA National Independent Beer Awards, most recently in March.
Which got us thinking about how 1985 compares with well-known lager brands.
So, pre-lockdown, in a blind tasting experiment, we pitted 1985 against three of the BIGGEST lager brands in the U.K... and filmed it.
1985 is a deliciously refreshing premium lager that boasts a moreish malty base, flecked with delicate floral notes. Pale straw in colour, 1985 is brewed using the best of British hops together with European lager hops to give this unique Kolsch-style lager a cool, crisp taste.
